The person behind Tau Sagittarii is Kurt Baggaley, an English producer and artist of deep electronic music, who’s best known for his minimal electro/techno productions as Scape One. Tau Sagittarii is a new project to launch his more experimental electronic scores. The theme of the first Tau Sagittarii concept album “Sensory Data” is based around mankind’s search for intelligence beyond planet earth, and is inspired by deep space and science fiction soundtracks. The outcome is a pure form of cosmic, non-melodic music with an abstract rim, overall unhurried and containing quite a lot space between the layers, notes and arpegiated sequences. Especially when listened to with a good pair of headphones, the spacious music really takes the listener into celestial spheres. “Bio Replication” and “Atmospheric Strata” are the most experimental takes on the recording, while the vibrant title track following after it adds a touch of movement. “Velocity Components” features nice lush and spatial sequencing accompanied by bass lines and hints of a melodic pads. “Solitude of Stars”, with 19 minutes the longest piece on the album, is a smooth meandering soundscape with a minimal sequencing showing up at the 7-minute mark that getting louder and is further tweaked in the following minutes. All in all, “Sensory Data”, a soundtrack for hypersleep chambers and cosmic time travel, is not an easy bite and only suitable for advanced ambient lovers. |
