Like many other ambient releases, this is an album trying to capture the feel, wonder and hidden power of the landscapes found in the Northern hemisphere of our globe. The focus here is on the coastal region and the living earth environs -due to continuous volcanic and geothermal activity- of Island that never fail to fascinate (at least for me) for all who have been fortunate to visit. Canadian composers Allister Thompson and Teri-Lynn Janveau did their own part in composing a fine cinematic travelogue with the help of Samantha Thompson, incorporating effective environmental sounds in their inspired sonic vistas. No traces of island’s restless nature or any darkening/abstract musings on the minimal aural realm “Landslag Norður Íslands”. Instead, an emotive, gentle unfolding, overtly atmospheric and dreamy sound painting featuring gliding synth waves, mellotron patches, neo-classical orchestrations and ethereal vocals along assorted treated sounds. The introspective, desolate nature and vast scenery encountered in this region simply resonates in each of the four textural, tracks along embedded currents of plain beauty. As such “Landslag Norður Íslands” makes a pleasant contemplative listening experience to make your imagination wander elsewhere and relax your mind. |
