“Mist” is part of a series of albums released after a total rebuild of Thom’s studio, between 2000 and 2001. It features Mr. Brennan’s interpretation of his first of many visits to the Quinault and Hoh rainforests on the Olympic Peninsula of Washington state through four extended ambient tracks. The ethereal music, lasting for nearly an hour, exudes a large dose of serenity and relaxation, while the hypnotic textures effortlessly drift on and off. As a listener, you imagine yourself on a vast plain where it is fantastic to linger. Occasionally, the soundscapes harbor soft, slightly exotic effects or bell sounds. This excellent-sounding album evaporates a lovely, mesmerizing realm of tranquillity. As such, “Mist” makes a great vehicle to escape from the pressure and hectic of worldly affairs. Fast forward to December 2022: a lovely 24-bit remaster of “Mist” -derived from the original DAT recordings- by this skilled ambient musician sees the light of day… |
