Ambient musician Tim Story doesn’t need a lot of introduction, being an accomplished contemporary instrumental composer of ambient chamber music for many years. While bridging old and modern classical music, Tim has creates 49 minutes of reflective, soundtrack-like and overtly intimate instrumental music miniatures that touch the heart. “Shadowplay” features a beautiful interplay of grand piano, electronics, hobo, cello, treatments and occasional e-guitar, alltogether making up subtle and emotional music full of grace and melancholy for the time passing. The delicate and the fragile, next to the many faces and feelings of loss in real life are deeply embedded in Tims wonderful songs. The profound contemplative but also rather slow style of music though is something one must appreciate. But when you’re into the lyrical music of Mark Isham, Paul Sauvanet or Mychael Danna, the beautifully glowing “Shadowplay” absolutely is a recording to check out. |
