This peculiar, limited edition compilation (which seems to be the first one in a series) by the Scandinavian label Ghost Sounds, comprises music from three different ambient projects: Quantec (aka Sven Scheinhammer), Deer (aka Martin Hirsch) and Relapxych.0(aka Anders Peterson). Moulded around drone and rhythm, the purpose of this dub-tech album is to present different sides of ambience, everyday sounds constantly surrounding us, outdoor sounds, workplace atmospheres, musical instruments, synthesizers or equipment used in studios, or whatever it might be. The output of Quantec offers a mixture of techno-flavoured music and ambient, while Relapxych.0 presents a series of overall mellow soundscapes and textures. The sonics of Deer realm in more IDM oriented styles. All in all, the 76-minute “Shapes and Phases of Ambience” offers an above average selection of submersive, shapeshifting and introspective electronics with minimal techno elements. |
