Fans (especially those living in the USA),loving atmospheric ambient and Berlin School inspired cosmic music may be familiar with Chuck van Zyl. The latter is producer and host of the renowned radioshow Star’s End and also organizer of the many concerts in Philadelphia’s Gatherings Concert Series. This double-cd release (featuring over 2 hours of electronic music) marks the 30th anniversary of Star’s End in June 2007, containing a fine selection of 12 artists/acts that performed live at the Gatherings, or live on Star’s End radio, or both between 1996 and 2006. These are The Ministry of Inside Things, Erik Wollo, Orbital Decay, Ian Boddy, AirSculpture, Radio Massacre International, Robert Rich, Rudy Adrian, Jonn Serrie, Jeff Pearce, Saul Stokes and Steve Roach. As far as I know, the tracks by AirSculpture’s (“Argent Engine”) and Rudy Adrian (“Rocks and Junipers”), Jonn Serrie (“The Stars, like Dust”), Robert Rich (“Steel Harmonics”) and Jeff Pearce (“Sudden Light”) respectively were re-released later on by the artists themselves. In addition, the most adventurous/progressive takes on the release are provided by Ian Boddy (“Before the End of the Beginning”) and Saul Stokes (“Then-Current”). |
