“Pandemie” is a concept album filled with sequenced, pulsative electronic music, despite its quiet opening track. During the intense sonic ride, the Wuppertal-based German duo Braun/Dominizcak pairs grand orchestral/symphonic outings with modern, dancy-oriented exercises, although an apocalyptic/menacing undercurrent is always more or less shimmering through. Accessible electro-pop tracks like “Prophecy”, “Archaic Dance”, “Infection” and “Days of Fate” hail back to the hay days of traditional synth music, but at other spots the music easily switches to hectic, energetic, beat-driven takes (e.g. “Introducing Boundaries”, “The Anachronism of Mutation”). Toward the end, the alarming message intensifies through the music, taking on a bit more of a groovy shape with rather in-your-face sequencing. Despite the heavy and dark theme investigated here, the rhythmic/sequencer driven and detailed, spacious sounding “Pandemie” makes a fine cinematic and versatile effort. Well done. |
