It took Pierre Salkazanov some three years to come up with this follow-up to 2020’s “Chaos Islands”. Overall, the seven tracks making up the 45-minute “Lost in the Future” sound like his previous contemporary releases, managing to retain a lot of originality in both his compositions and soundscapes. This time though the outcome (dealing with the idea of being immersed in the future world suggesting a sense of adventure, uncertainty, and the enigmatic nature of what lies ahead) is more accessible, seeing Pierre add more melodic lines to the often sequencer-driven, futurist-hinted music. But make no mistake, the composer’s characteristic psychedelic realms as well as many strange hooks and twists are still present. After various listens I conclude no progress is being made in Zanov’s synthetic, hallucinogenic world of sounds. Therefore 3 stars. |
